TeleHealth
What is Telehealth?

(Also referred to as Telemedicine, Teletherapy or Telepsychiatry)

Telehealth is a form of video conferencing allowing psychiatrists and therapists to provide services to patients outside of the office, allowing the opportunity for consultation with family members, teachers and other providers involved in the patient’s care.

Adult Psychiatry

What is Psychiatry?

Psychiatry is a field of medicine in which providers use medication to treat mental and behavioral health disorders when needed. Psychiatric care providers are licensed medical professionals. Patients either see a medical doctor, an advanced nurse practitioner, or a physician assistant.

Psychiatric Treatment:

At DMV Psychiatric Wellness, we empower patients to make their own decisions about their health. Our providers will not shame you into taking medication that you don’t want to take. Instead, they inform you about all of your care options, including benefits and risks. Then you make the decisions. If you and your provider determine that medication should be part of your treatment plan, your provider will walk through your medication options with you. Depending on your needs, the provider may prescribe medications such as antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, stimulants, or mood stabilizers.

At DMV Psychiatric Wellness, we recommend ongoing medication management to ensure that medications work well for our patients. It’s important to attend these follow-up appointments or reschedule them as needed. During medication management appointments, your provider will ask about your symptoms, any side effects, and how you feel about your medication. If you have serious or severe side effects, you can contact your provider before your follow-up appointment. They will give you directions on how to wean yourself off the medication if needed. If you have a life-threatening reaction to the medication, seek emergency medical attention.

What is Child and Teen Psychiatry?

Child and adolescent psychiatry specializes in the diagnosis and the treatment of disorders of thinking, feeling and/or behavior affecting children, adolescents, and their families. A child and adolescent psychiatrist offers families the advantages of a medical education, the medical traditions of professional ethics, and medical responsibility for providing comprehensive care.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Treatment

Child and adolescent psychiatry can help children and their families to manage a broad range of conditions, including:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Schizophrenia

  • Bipolar disorder

  • Trauma or stress-related disorders

  • ADHD

Online Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

An online psychiatry session is just the same as a visit to a doctor, it just happens via a video screen on a phone or computer. Parents, teens and family practitioners report high satisfaction with remote consults and appreciate their convenience and privacy.

The psychiatrist will ask you for some basic information and then they will ask you about your current psychological or behavioral symptoms, your medical and family history, and talk about factors that may be causing or making those symptoms worse. Using all of the information that they gather from you, the psychiatrist will come up with a detailed evaluation followed by a treatment plan that might include therapy or medications.
